I should have hired someone who could get the job done quickly, but had to try it out just once.
Mine casually said, “You can re-caulk a shower. How hard could it be?”
Well… let me tell you, that narrator is a liar.
I thought I was signing up for a simple DIY project. What I actually signed up for was a full-time archaeological excavation. Apparently, before you can put new caulk in, you must remove every microscopic molecule of old caulk that has existed since the dawn of indoor plumbing.
After spending what felt like 37 business days picking and scraping, I went to the store and found a miracle product: Caulk Remover!
I drove home feeling like a DIY genius.
Ha. Ha. Ha.
It did help… a little. Kind of like bringing a squirt gun to put out a forest fire.
So there I am, scrubbing away, feeling productive, when I realize the caulk remover has also decided to remove the bottoms of my flip-flops. Now I’m walking around like I’m shedding tires. The black rubber marks all over the tub made it look like I was hosting motocross races in the shower.
So now I have two projects:
- Remove old caulk.
- Remove evidence that I removed old caulk.
At this point, I’m pretty sure the shower is winning.
The narrator hasn’t said much since. Probably because he’s hiding and doesn’t want to hear what I have to say.
DIY translation guide:
- “Quick project” = Entire weekend.
- “Easy fix” = Emotional damage.
- “Just recaulk it” = Welcome to your new personality.
If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the bathroom, negotiating with a tube of silicone and questioning every life choice that brought me here.
